josef albers albers was an exponent of the theory of an interaction of colour at the bauhaus. initially as a student and later a teacher at the bauhaus and in later life he developed many important series of artistic studies including 'homage to the square'. this derivation of one of his paintings exclusively devoted to the optical effects of colour. the two brown squares are in-fact one continuous colour, however when interacting with the adjacent hues appear as though they are different.
